10 Party Games That Need Zero Equipment
Dead phone battery, empty cupboard, bored guests — no problem. These ten games need nothing but the people in the room, and most work for kids, adults, or a brutal mix of both.
1. Twenty Questions
One person thinks of an object; everyone else gets twenty yes/no questions to identify it. Best questions are narrowing ones ("Is it man-made?"). Works with 3+ players and is endlessly replayable.
2. Charades
The classic. Act out a movie, book or song with no words or sounds while your team shouts guesses. Loud, physical, and funny precisely because it is hard. Ideal for two teams of any size.
3. Two Truths and a Lie
Each player states three "facts" about themselves — two true, one false. The group votes on the lie. Perfect icebreaker, because the whole game is learning surprising things about each other.
4. Would You Rather
Take turns posing impossible choices ("Would you rather always be ten minutes late or always be twenty minutes early?"). Zero setup, works at the dinner table, and sparks debates that outlast the game.
5. Word Association Chain
Someone says a word; the next person says the first word that comes to mind, and so on down the line. If you hesitate too long or break the chain, you're out. Deceptively simple and it moves fast.
6. Mafia (narrated Werewolf)
A narrator (no cards needed — the narrator secretly assigns roles by pointing) runs a village through night and day phases while an undercover mafia eliminates citizens. Best with 7+ players and deserves at least half an hour.
7. Human Knot
Stand in a circle of 6–12, grab two random hands across the circle, then untangle yourselves without letting go. A cooperative puzzle that collapses into laughter within a minute.
8. Silent Line-Up
The group must line up in order of birthday — without speaking, writing, or mouthing words. Great as a five-minute team warm-up; add difficulty with "no hand gestures" for the second round.
9. I Spy
Underrated for adults, unbeatable with kids. One player picks something visible and gives the first letter; the rest ask questions or guess. Works anywhere you can see anything at all.
10. Grandma's Footsteps
One player faces a wall; everyone sneaks up behind them. The guard turns around at random moments — anyone caught moving goes back to the start. First to touch the wall wins and becomes the new guard.
Bonus: one phone, whole room
When a single phone is available, timing games are the best zero-prop group entertainment there is. In Teams mode, up to ten teams face off round by round on the same hidden time, and in Versus mode two to ten players pass one device and guess privately. No accounts, no installs — just a sense of ten seconds and bragging rights.

Yes — every game on this list works for family groups. For mixed age groups, Charades, Silent Line-Up and Grandma's Footsteps are the safest picks.
Which game works best for very large groups?
Mafia scales to 20+ players with a confident narrator, and Teams mode in our timing game handles up to 100 players across ten teams with a single phone.
